Utility Bills in Bulgaria: Average Monthly Costs for Water, Electricity, and High-Speed Internet

Hi everyone! I am currently planning a move to Bulgaria and trying to put together a realistic monthly budget. Could anyone share their typical experiences with utility costs, specifically what to expect for electricity, water, and high-speed internet? I would love to know how much these bills generally fluctuate between the summer months and the colder winter heating season.

Welcome to Bulgaria! For a standard 2-bedroom apartment, electricity usually runs around 50-70 BGN in the summer, but winter bills can easily jump to 150-250 BGN if you rely heavily on AC units or a convector heater for warmth.

Water is relatively cheap compared to Western Europe. We usually pay about 30 to 45 BGN per month for a household of two, and that doesn't change much between seasons unless you have a garden.

High-speed internet and TV packages are fantastic here. You get symmetrical gigabit fiber for about 25-35 BGN a month with providers like Vivacom or A1. Speed and reliability are top-notch.

If you are looking at houses in the countryside or smaller towns, keep in mind that winter heating with wood or pellets can add an extra cost, especially if you look at properties in mountain areas where winters get quite brisk.

Electricity is definitely the biggest variable. Summer is cheap because you only run the AC for cooling, but winter pushes the bill up due to heating. Gas is also an option in some newer buildings, but electricity is more common.
